Covenant HealthCare will break ground next month on a new, state-of-the-art orthopedics facility, expanding access to advanced musculoskeletal care in the Great Lakes Bay Region. The new facility will be located on the west side of the Covenant HealthCare Mackinaw Campus in Saginaw Township, adjacent to the Covenant Cancer Care Center and accessible from Tittabawassee Road.
Designed to enhance access, coordination, and the overall patient experience, the new Covenant HealthCare Orthopedics facility will bring comprehensive outpatient orthopedic services together in one convenient location, which will become home to one of the region’s most experienced orthopedic care teams.
The approximately 25,700-square-foot facility will include 44 exam rooms, four x-ray rooms, four procedural rooms, two casting rooms, a dedicated space for Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare Orthotics & Prosthetics, along with administrative and support services.
A landmark feature of the new facility will be Covenant HealthCare OrthoExpress, one of the only orthopedic-focused urgent care centers in the region. Modeled after the trusted Covenant HealthCare MedExpress brand, Covenant OrthoExpress will provide walk-in care for acute bone, joint, and muscle injuries—offering a specialized alternative to the emergency department for non-life-threatening orthopedic needs.
“This groundbreaking represents more than a new building—it reflects the continued commitment to expanding access to exceptional care across the region,” said Beth Charlton, President and CEO of Covenant HealthCare. “To deliver extraordinary care, we must invest in extraordinary people, technology, and facilities. This new facility builds on the strength of the established orthopedics program, enhancing convenience, coordination, and access so patients and families can continue to receive highly specialized musculoskeletal care close to home.”
The new Covenant HealthCare Orthopedics facility will house:
- 10 experienced orthopedic surgeons representing specialties including sports medicine, adult reconstruction, shoulder and elbow surgery, pediatric orthopedics, trauma, and elective procedures
- Two highly trained podiatrists, including one specializing in reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery
- A dedicated Sports Medicine physician serving athletes and active individuals
- Seven advanced practice providers—four physician assistants and three nurse practitioners—delivering coordinated, team-based care
- Professionals from Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare Orthotics & Prosthetics
Together, this multidisciplinary team is dedicated to comprehensive musculoskeletal treatment and recovery, all under one roof.
The Covenant Orthopedics team has deep roots in the Saginaw community. The flagship Saginaw Valley Bone and Joint clinic, established in 1995, has long been a trusted provider of orthopedic services in the area. Since joining Covenant HealthCare in 2017, the team has expanded services and capabilities to meet growing patient needs across the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond.
“The Covenant HealthCare Orthopedics team has earned the trust of this community through decades of expertise, innovation, and compassionate care,” said Adam Tompa, Vice President of Clinical Service Lines at Covenant HealthCare. “This new facility allows us to build on that foundation—expanding access, enhancing collaboration among specialists, and creating an environment intentionally designed around the needs of patients and families. It positions us to meet growing demand while continuing to raise the standard for orthopedic care in the region.”
This approximately $25 million development represents a continued investment in specialty services and in meeting the growing demand for orthopedic and sports medicine care across the region.
Construction is expected to be completed with an anticipated opening in summer 2027. A ceremonial groundbreaking event is planned for April 8, 2026, with additional details to be announced.
