Advanced Triplet Monitoring Technology at Covenant Children’s Hospital Enhances Care for Moms and Babies Across the Region
Covenant HealthCare is proud to announce a major advancement in maternal and fetal care as the first hospital in the United States to implement the new OBIX triplet monitoring system, offering a more effective way to monitor triplet pregnancies during labor and delivery.
Monitoring multiples is now possible at Covenant HealthCare
This innovative technology allows care teams to monitor all three babies on a single tracing system, improving efficiency, accuracy, and the overall experience for patients and families facing high-risk multifetal pregnancies.
While triplet pregnancies are rare, they often come with increased risks for both the mother and babies, making careful monitoring during labor especially important. Traditionally, tracking three fetal heart rates required multiple monitoring systems and added complexity in the delivery room. With this new system, clinicians can streamline the process while continuing to provide high-quality care.
“We’re thrilled to have the ability to monitor triplet pregnancies on one machine,” said Shelley Fewer, Clinical Outcomes Nurse Specialist, Covenant HealthCare Birth Center. “A multifetal pregnancy increases the risk of complications for both the mother and babies. By using the most up-to-date technology available, we’re confident in providing the safest care and identifying concerns as early as possible.”
This advancement also supports care teams working at the bedside during labor and delivery. Monitoring three babies at once has historically been challenging for both clinicians and patients. Simplifying this process helps reduce stress in the room while maintaining accurate monitoring throughout labor.
As a Joint Commission-verified Level III Birth Center and home to the region’s only Level III Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU), Covenant Children’s Hospital provides specialized maternal and neonatal care for families throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond. This new capability builds on the organization’s longstanding commitment to safety, compassionate care, and improved outcomes, ensuring families have access to next-generation technology and specialized expertise when it matters most.
