Brian Purchase, DO, FACOEP, CAQ Sports Medicine
Board Certified Sports Medicine and Emergency Medicine Physician
Brian Purchase, DO is board certified in emergency medicine and sports medicine. After many years of treating patients in the emergency and trauma setting, Dr. Purchase has redirected his efforts to treating athletes. He firmly believes that, “exercise is a form of medicine,” a philosophy of health care and sports medicine where exercise and activity can be used to treat or prevent major chronic diseases. It is his goal to keep his patients active and help them return to their previous level of performance as quickly and safely as possible.

Whether you are just beginning a training program or are a competitive athlete, Dr. Purchase can evaluate, diagnose and facilitate your recovery process.

Dr. Purchase practices what he preaches. He is an avid triathlete and has participated and completed over eighty endurance events of various types and is a multiple half Ironman and Ironman finisher. He has also provided medical support at several running and triathlon events, including many years of experience caring for elite athletes at the Ironman Championships in Kona, Hawaii.

Dr. Purchase grew up in Michigan. He is a 1990 graduate of Michigan State University. He completed his medical training at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1994. His internship was at Michigan Capital Medical Center in Lansing, followed by a three year residency in emergency medicine at POH Medical Center in Pontiac, Michigan. He began his career at Covenant HealthCare in 1998 and after sixteen years of clinical and administrative work in the Emergency Care Center, including 5 years as the Medical Director, he opted to augment his medical knowledge by completing a year of specialized training in sports medicine in 2015. His fellowship was affiliated with Wright State University and the Kettering Sports Medicine Center in Dayton, Ohio.

He returns to the Great Lakes Bay Region to establish a sports medicine clinic and hopes to be a resource for athletes and active individuals.

His focus will be on musculoskeletal injuries that do not require surgery. He will treat athletes and active patients of all ages from all sports including dance, football and recreational walking to name a few. If it is determined surgery or formal physical therapy is required, he will assist with patient referral to the appropriate specialist. He will also evaluate and manage athletes who have sustained a concussion and work to get the athlete safely back to their sport or activity.

He is married and has two teenage sons.
