Covenant Nursing Excellence Award Winners Announced (and Surprised)

Every year, Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw celebrates nurses during National Nurses Week.

To acknowledge the efforts and contributions of Covenant nurses, each year nurses are nominated by their peers and chosen recipients of the Nursing Excellence Awards. Each category recognizes the unique aspect in which nurses contribute their time and talents to their patients and colleagues.

Part of the tradition at Covenant HealthCare is to surprise each award recipient. Recipients have no idea they are receiving the award until they are surprised by their peers, leadership and family. Given the current environment, in-person family surprises were not possible within the facility, but with the use of technology and their families’ creativity, these moments were still shared and special with virtual surprises and outdoor ceremonies.

Congratulations to the following 2021 Covenant HealthCare Nursing Excellence Award recipients:
Doni Flinn, CRNA – Nursing Caring Practice
Angie Nichols, RN – Nursing Caring Practice
Connie Ruth, RN – Nursing Leadership & Mentoring
Michael Jacques, RN – Nursing Caring Practice
Jill Jarvis, RN – Nursing Leadership & Mentoring
Robin Volker, LPN – Nursing Caring Practice
Dey Costilla, RN – Nursing Caring Practice

Great care relies upon a personal connection between people. While advancements in technologies allow people to more efficiently share information, the healing power of touch and face-to-face interaction cannot be substituted. Each of our employees has one focus – the patient. At the forefront of that focus are the clinicians at the patient’s side offering a warm smile and healing touch.

Nurses at Covenant make up more than one-third of the staff. They provide reassurance and care for not only the patients but their loved ones. Often, they are the constant face of the entire team.

Our nurses provide extraordinary care to every generation. Our nurses are leaders within the organization, the community, and advocate for the patient.

Covenant nurses work in the emergency room, physicians’ offices, occupational health, home health, hospital floors and in information technology, just to name a few places. Nurses fill roles ranging from staff nurse to educator to discharge planner. No matter what department they work in or what job they do, all our nurses serve with passion for the profession and a strong commitment to patient safety.

Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. During this week, Covenant thanks nursing staff for all they do, including via Nursing Excellence Awards.
