When to Go to the Covenant Emergency Care Center

Call 911 or go directly to our Emergency Care Center if you or a loved one experiences:

  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea
  • Sudden, severe headache
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Loss of consciousness or speech
  • Limb numbness
  • Motor vehicle injury
  • Head or neck injury
  • Seizures
  • Psychiatric disorders
  • Overdoses
  • Child abuse
  • Assault including rape
  • Bleeding/cramping in pregnancy
  • Infants less than 6 weeks of age
  • High fever especially in children under 8 weeks of age

When to Go to MedExpress or Virtual Urgent Care

When it’s outside of your doctor’s office hours and you feel you need immediate care, but it’s not an emergency, choose one of our urgent care options.

Visit one of our five MedExpress Urgent Care locations for:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Animal and insect bites/stings
  • Cuts (where bleeding is controlled)
  • Ear, sinus and throat infections
  • Eye injuries/pinkeye
  • Flu symptoms
  • Mild to moderate asthma
  • Minor burns
  • Mild injuries
  • Most fevers (except with convulsion or in infants less than 6 weeks old)
  • Rashes
  • Respiratory virus
  • Sports injuries
  • Sprains, strains and simple fractures
  • Sports physicals
  • On site testing:
    • Monospot (test for mononucleosis)
    • Pregnancy test
    • Rapid strep test
    • TB skin test
    • Urinalysis
    • Flu test
    • X-ray
  • Flu shots in season
  • Tetanus shots after injury

Set up a Virtual Urgent Care visit

When to see your primary care doctor.

Your primary care provider (PCP) knows your medical history and prescriptions, so they should be your first call for non-urgent care. Make an appointment with your PCP for things like:

  • Muscle pain
  • Minor injuries, bumps and bruises
  • Chronic conditions your PCP is helping you manage
  • Mild cold or flu symptoms
  • Skin problems
  • Sore throat
  • Prescription refills
  • Immunizations
