Brain Injury Rehabilitation

Highly specialized rehabilitation is crucial for patients with a brain injury. The Brain Injury Program at Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare is individualized to each patient’s unique needs to promote healing and optimize recovery.

Our exceptional team of experts – many of whom are certified by the Brain Injury Association of America – provides goal-focused rehabilitation for adults and children 12 and older.

We provide comprehensive care for patients with moderate to severe brain injuries, including:

  • Aneurysm
  • Anoxia or hypoxia (lack of oxygen or low oxygen)
  • Brain infection (encephalitis, meningitis)
  • Metabolic (diabetic coma, insulin shock)
  • Seizure
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Tumor
  • Toxic exposure (substance abuse, toxic agent inhalation)

Our Brain Injury Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and Health Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAC), representing the highest quality of care.

Specialized Care

Our Brain Injury Team is led by a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, called a physiatrist. The team also includes:

  • Physical therapists
  • Recreational therapists
  • Rehabilitation nurses
  • Speech-language pathologists
  • Social workers

We incorporate therapies into each patient’s individualized treatment plan to help restore functional skills and independent living capabilities. Loved ones are encouraged to participate in therapy sessions.

Specialized equipment and technology to enhance treatment:

  • Bioness® hand and foot rehabilitation systems
  • Dynavision visual motor training system
  • LiteGait® gait training and posture control
  • Lokomat robot-assisted walking technology

We also provide an environment that includes in-room cameras and the ability to reduce overstimulation that can occur during recovery from an acquired brain injury.
