Objective:

To provide dress code standards to ensure that staff appearance is appropriate and professional for the type of work performed while upholding the image of the organization.

Scope:

This policy applies to all Covenant HealthCare employees and volunteers.

Policy:

Dress standards are defined to ensure health and safety standards are met and staff appearance is appropriate. Certain departments or services may require uniforms or other specific dress and personal grooming regulations. If so, they have been developed to meet applicable health codes and bona fide occupational requirements that must be observed. Violations of either general standards or department’s regulations may be cause for corrective action.

Provisions:

  • Dress standards include neatness, cleanliness, and appropriate attire.  Personal and oral hygiene must be maintained.  Potent fragrances should be avoided or as outlined by department policy.
  • Extremes in dress, hair, and jewelry (including body piercing and tattooing), are not permissible. Extreme and/or offensive tattoos including but not limited to those containing violent or graphic images, foul or profane language, must be covered by clothing or as outlined by department policy.
  • All staff are to wear a Covenant provided identification badge.  The identification badge must be worn above the waist, clipped on clothing or lanyard.
  • Hose/socks must be worn at all times by all Covenant employees, in all areas providing direct patient care throughout the organization or as outlined by department policy in non-patient care areas.
  • Hair, beards and mustaches must be neat, clean and trimmed.
  • Leaders will determine appropriate dress standards for the various positions in their department for those standards not addressed above.
