Emergency Care Center
Covenant HealthCare offers emergency and urgent care services to treat illnesses, injuries and trauma. More than 85,000 patients are cared for annually through the Covenant Emergency Care Center's state-of-the-art facility. The Emergency Care Center is centrally located between Covenant Medical Center's two main campuses: 700 Cooper and 1447 North Harrison, off Michigan Avenue in Saginaw (see map) . The ECC is linked to the two main campuses via an all-weather enclosed walkway to facilitate in transporting patients.
The Center is staffed by 37 board certified and/or residency trained emergency medicine physicians and highly trained critical care nurses and technicians to ensure you and your family receive emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
All patients coming to the Covenant Emergency Care Center are seen by a triage nurse within minutes of arrival. Through an initial assessment, a patient's care can be individualized according to priority of need. Sixty one private treatment rooms are available to increase patient and family privacy.
The Emergency Care Center encompasses a total of 32,000 square feet and features three distinct treatment areas, specially designed and equipped to offer an array of services.
Covenant HealthCare is verified as a Level II Trauma Center for Adults and Pediatrics by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). To achieve ACS verification Covenant HealthCare has demonstrated high trauma care standards by meeting strict guidelines regarding care of the seriously injured. This includes having a well-coordinated trauma team, continuous quality improvement efforts, a medical review process, a trauma registry, medical staff in multiple specialties, regional EMS providers and administrative staff support, amongst others.
Adult Emergency Care is provided in an advanced medical unit, equipped with the most advanced life saving equipment. Three major resuscitation suites are available to handle trauma situations with several critical care rooms also nearby. Additional private rooms are available to handle other injuries and illnesses.
Pediatric Emergency Care Center is located within the Covenant Emergency Care Center and provides specialized emergency care for ill or injured children in child-friendly treatment rooms, which are specially equipped with child-sized medical equipment.
The Clinical Decision Unit is a unit designed for patients with chest pain or discomfort that is non-acute. Physicians, nurses and technicians observe individuals to determine if additional treatment or examination is required. If deemed necessary, a patient is then admitted to the medical center for further evaluation.
The Covenant Emergency Care Center also features a separate ambulance entrance. Ambulance service is available 24 hours a day through Mobile Medical Response, a mobile medical transport provider, servicing 9 counties in mid-Michigan. Many additional ambulance service providers are located throughout mid-Michigan and the Thumb area to transport individuals to Covenant for treatment. In affiliation with Covenant HealthCare and the Emergency Care Center, LifeNet of Michigan provides 24-hour round the clock helicopter transport services to all hospitals in mid-Michigan, the Thumb and northern region of Michigan’s lower peninsula.
