Residency Program

Covenant HealthCare is proud to be part of a progressive move in health care to provide training facilities for health care professionals.  Synergy Medical Education Alliance, formerly known as Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals, Inc., (SCHI), was formed in 1968, when the hospitals in Saginaw joined forces to create a non-profit medical education corporation that administers the residency training programs in Saginaw.  Synergy is affiliated with Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine (MSU-CHM).

Today, students and residents circulate between Covenant HealthCare and Saint Mary’s working along side doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals in an intellectually stimulating and educational atmosphere – an atmosphere that fosters better care for patients. 

In addition, Synergy's formal affiliation with MSU-CHM provides residents and faculty access to research support and funding as well as the opportunity to network with faculty and residents at MSU-CHM and its other campuses---as well as giving them ample opportunity to teach others. 

Synergy offers five community-based, fully accredited residency training programs:

• Emergency medicine
• Family practice
• General surgery
• Internal medicine
• Obstetrics and gynecology

Allied Health Programs- 
Synergy is committed to offering medical education opportunities to physician’s assistant students.  We accept P.A. students from three Michigan universities. These students may complete a clinical rotation here and receive the benefits of working closely with attending physicians, residents and medical students

Saginaw Health Science Library-
The Saginaw Health Sciences Library is a division of Synergy.  It supports medical excellence in the Saginaw community by serving as the library for employees, physicians and students of Synergy, Covenant HealthCare and Saint Mary’s.  Formed in 1978, the Saginaw Health Sciences Library is currently the largest medical library north of the Detroit area.
