Medication

There are several oral pills that your doctor may prescribe if you have type 2 diabetes. If oral medication is part of your treatment plan, your nurse or physician will talk to you about which medicine is best for you and when to take it. Often times more than one kind of pill, in addition to insulin link to insulin, may be prescribed for you to control your blood sugar.

Timing your food, medicine and dosage per your doctor's order is very important. It's also crucial that you take the dosage prescribed at the same time every day. Most pills should be taken just before you eat. If you have problems with your medication, please let your doctor or nurse know. Don't stop taking any medication unless your doctor or nurse tells you to do so.

My Medication Plan

It's helpful to know the following:

  • What medication am I on?
  • How can I make sure I take my medicine as my doctor has told me to take it?
  • Who can help me with my medication? (healthcare team, friend, family)
  • What should I do if I feel I need to take nonprescription medication?
