Massage Therapy
Massage therapy provides relief to individuals from all
walks of life – the weekend or competitive athlete, the home gardener, the
overstressed worker – anyone can feel the need for massage at some point in
time. Today, the healing touch of massage in all its forms is at the forefront
of alternative and complementary therapies providing relief to many
individuals.
Women especially can benefit from massage as it enhances flexibility and
circulation, helps in relieving stress and physical fatigue, improves posture
and muscular tone.
Prenatal massage can relieve fatigue, headaches, backaches and morning
sickness. Pregnant women also benefit from massage as it increases muscle tone
and flexibility, alleviates muscle spasm and prepares pelvic muscles for the
birth process. Massage has also been shown to help calm an active
baby.
Following birth, infants can even benefit from therapeutic massage as it
helps to increase newborn weight gain and baby’s overall health and
development. Massage therapy techniques can be taught to parents to aid in
comforting colicky a colicky baby.
Women who are planning to have a surgical procedure can benefit from massage
as it promotes relaxation before surgery and massage can decrease the need for
pain medication following the procedure.
Mature women find that massage therapy improves their balance and
flexibility. It also reduces arthritis pain, relieves stress and physical
tension.
