Covenant Stroke Program
Beat the Clock...Save Your Brain
The Covenant HealthCare Stroke Program is designed to help you beat the clock, improve your odds for survival from a stroke, save your brain and ability to walk, talk, see, reach and feel. The faster you come to the Covenant Emergency Care Center after symptom onset, the more quickly we can make an assessment, and determine if the potentially life-saving, clot-busting drug, t-PA, should be administered or if other treatment is in order.
Our program meets the rigorous standards of, and is accredited by, the Health Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) as a Primary Stroke Care Program.
The Stroke Team is alerted the instant you present to the Emergency Care Center staff with stroke symptoms. You're whisked into a room, lab work and neurological testing are done and charted and an IV set up. A CT scan follows and a neurologist called for consultation.
Continuum of Care
Emergency room, laboratory and CT/MRI personnel, physical, speech and occupational therapists, a nurse practitioner-coordinator and 24-7 on-call neurologist are among the members of our team. A neurosurgeon, PFO closure surgical specialist or carotid stenting specialist are also available if needed.
Our advanced technology includes an air ambulance transport system, angiography suites, a 64-slice CT scan and MRI equipment, specialty neuroscience critical care units and a neuroscience step-down unit.
