Cancer Care and Infusion Therapy

We know that living with cancer and chronic illness requires more than just fighting the disease. The staff at our Cancer Care and Infusion Therapy Center provides education, treatment and support for patients and their families.

Located on the third floor of Covenant HealthCare Mackinaw, the cancer center consists of a large central patient care area, four private treatment rooms, private restrooms and a comfortable waiting area. A short stay room helps to decrease wait times for some patients.

Services offered at the Cancer Care and Infusion Therapy Center include chemotherapy, IV therapy/injections, blood product administration, therapeutic phlebotomy, bladder instillations and endocrine testing. Bone marrow aspirations and PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) line insertions are also provided at the center.

The health care team at the Cancer Care and Infusion Therapy Center includes physicians, oncology certified nurses, a registered dietitian, clinical social worker, pharmacist, pastoral care as well as registered nursing care assistants and certified health unit coordinator. This knowledgeable team works together to coordinate a plan of care for each patient based on individual physical, emotional and spiritual needs. All members of the team participate to provide support and education regarding the treatment process for each patient and their significant others.

Snacks and beverages are offered throughout each patient's visit, however some treatments may extend into meal times. Patients are offered a menu of appetizing soups, salads, sandwiches, beverages and desserts daily, providing them with nutritious meals while undergoing treatment.

The diagnosis and treatment of cancer is a major source of stress for patients and their families. The Cancer Care and Infusion Therapy Center offers several on-site support groups for patients, survivors, family members and friends. They include Womens Cancer Support (for female related cancers), Coping with Cancer, and Living with Cancer - Frankenmuth (general cancer support groups), and Supporting Partners In Grief (for those who have lost partners to cancer). Various educational and supportive programs are offered throughout the year to cancer survivors, their significant others and to the general public.
